Some days ago a recording of O mio babbino caro played by Carlo Aonzo could be downloaded from Acoustic Oasis – a piece that I liked immediately very much. O mio babbino caro is an aria from Puccinis opera Gianni Schicci. It is a lovely melody, especially when it is played by mandolin and guitar or mandolin orchestra like in my first example.
KMC10concert O mio babbino caro
Next a recording of the version sung by famous Maria Callas:
Maria Callas, O Mio Babbino Caro
Now another version with mandolin and guitar, played by Al Fabrizio and Hugo Wainzinger – obviously the sound is taken from their CD and they play along on the street.

Nigel Gatherer has another version of this: http://www.nigelgatherer.com/tunes/tab/tab5/omio1.html
This aria, which translates as Oh, My Dear Daddy, is from Puccini’s one-act opera Gianni Schicci, first staged in 1918. This arrangement is based upon Italian mandolinist Carlo Aonzo’s rendering of it on the CD Traversata (Acoustic Disc ACD-47, 2001). It is tremoloed throughout. I have also arranged a harmony for the piece, which can be accessed here.
Finally my own version of this beautiful melody:
Enjoy playing this lovely melody on your mandolin!
